About Me.
...John Lark BA ,MA, ALCM
Pianist | Organist
Who I Am
A professional full-time musician, I have been playing the piano since the age of 11 and teaching the instrument for over 30 years.

My very first lesson marked the start of a lifelong passion for music and playing the piano, which I want to share with others.

Alongside teaching, I also play the piano and the organ at events such as weddings, funerals and church services. If you would like to hire me for an occasion, please contact me.

I read European History at the University of East Anglia, but continued my musical studies, attaining a Performers Diploma from the London College of Music. I'm a full professional member of the European Piano Teachers' Association (EPTA) and have a DBS certificate.
My Teaching Philosophy

Playing the piano - making music with one’s own hands - should be enjoyable whatever your age or level of expertise. Learning new pieces should be like embarking on an exciting voyage of discovery.

I encourage students to sit the ABRSM piano exams, as they are an excellent motivator and a widely recognised measure of achievement. Many of my pupils have passed with merit and distinction. I also encourage my pupils to take part in annual local or regional music festivals, such as the Suffolk County Music Festival; for doing so provides valuable performing experience, which in turn develops confidence.

But learning the piano isn’t just about exams. It’s about enjoying being creative and giving pleasure to listeners. In a word - fun!
